DeviceType for HqnImpose2

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

The value should be a PostScript-language key, selected from:

/deviceTypeCapstan

A device where pages are limited in the fast scan direction by the width of the material and are effectively unlimited in the slow scan direction.

/deviceTypePartDrum

A device where pages are limited in the fast scan direction by the internal or external imaging circumference of a drum, and in the slow scan direction by the width of the material, but which are capable of exposing only part of a full drum of material if only a small page is imaged.

/deviceTypeFullDrum

A device similar to that described for PartDrum, but which must expose a full drum of material even if only a small page is imaged.

/deviceTypeSheet

A device fed from cut sheet material, often a toner or other non-photographic printer.

/deviceTypeUnlimited

A device with effectively unlimited dimensions (for example, a file format).

DeviceType is used as a hint for which Tactic should be used if none is specifically selected in the call to HqnInitImpose. It is calculated automatically as far as is possible, but that cannot be done between a part drum and a full drum device. The optimum filling order for signatures varies between these two options; we  therefore recommend that you explicity set DeviceType when using drum devices.
