Files, filters, and devices

This chapter discusses how to deal with files, filters, and devices in the PostScript language. It enlarges on some of the information given in [RB3], especially in respect of what that book calls platform-specific detail, fills in gaps in that information, and provides detail about the Harlequin RIP’s extended interpretation of the specification. There are also a few RIP extensions in the area of files and devices which are useful in implementing new features and in debugging PostScript-language jobs.
