Margins in the page device

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

The Margins page device key is listed in [RB2] as an array containing the top and left margin settings in “device dependent units”, that is, pixels. Changing the margin settings effectively offsets the raster on the page.

The RIP extends the Margins key to take an array of two or four values. The additional two values are right and bottom margins. This is particularly relevant on continuous media devices, where the top and left margins are not enough to specify how far the right and bottom edges of the raster are from the edge of the sheet.

These values are transmitted to the %pagebuffer% device separately, as device parameters LeftMargin, TopMargin, RightMargin, and BottomMargin. If the argument to Margins is an array of only two values, the other two default to zero. This rarely happens, though, as the GUI always sets all four values, and jobs rarely use /Margins as its behavior is highly device-dependent.
