OptimalGutter, MinGutter, MinCropGutter for HqnImpose2
This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.
Gutters between pages in the layouts created by the Objective
procedures supplied are determined from three values: /OptimalGutter
, /MinGutter
, and /MinCropGutter
. The default values are 22.7 points (8 mm), 8.5 points (3 mm), and 1.4 points (0.5 mm).
Many variables in this section are referred to as being defined in points. It would be more accurate to describe them as being defined in the default user units of the PostScript language (1/72 inch), but the word point is used as shorthand.
Separate values for vertical and horizontal gutters may be provided as /OptHGutter
, /MinHGutter
, /MinHCropGutter
, /OptVGutter
, /MinVGutter
, and /MinVCropGutter
. If the older variables are set their values are copied into both the vertical and horizontal variables.
Although it is still possible to set the gutter sizes using the old variable names, it is no longer possible to read the values of the old variables from HqnImpose2GlobalDict
.
Gutters are normally set to the value of OptimalGutter
, but where that would mean that pages fit less efficiently, the gutters are reduced to improve the fit. They are not reduced beyond MinGutter
. Where crop marks are being added, it is often possible to reduce gutters further without causing problems when post-processing the flat; if CropMarks
is true
, MinCropGutter
is used as the limit rather than MinGutter
. Specify values in points. (As always, you can define values in mm or inches using simple PostScript-language code; for example, 0.7 inches could be entered as 0.7 72 mul
, or 18 mm as 18 72 mul 25.4 div
.)
