Output Controller and queue management

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; and to Harlequin MultiRIP but not Harlequin Core.

Harlequin MultiRIP uses pagebuffer files to temporarily store pages of rasterized data. Pages which are not directly passed to a plugin for output, for example when in Multiple Parallel mode, are stored on disk and appear in the queues of the Output Controller (also known as the Throughput System). Information in the Output Controller’s Info dialog box is derived from these files.

It is also possible to redirect pagebuffer files to another directory, so that they do not appear in the Output Controller but still become available for other purposes such as providing input to another process. For example, it is possible to send pagebuffers to a spool folder.

GGS provides the HqnThroughputControl procset to allow control of pagebuffer files from PostScript language. A notable example of the use of this procset is the PGB hot folder page feature supplied as an example page feature.
