PoorSoftMask PDF param

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; and to Harlequin Core but not Harlequin MultiRIP.

Boolean

Default: true

Controls whether the RIP honors ICC profiles while painting a soft mask, and the formula used to convert DeviceCMYK colors to luminosity.

The default of true means that the RIP favors compatibility with Adobe Acrobat 8 over compliance with the PDF specification. That is, the RIP converts ICC profiles to the device space alternate when painting soft masks. DeviceCMYK colors are converted to luminosity using the standard DeviceCMYK to DeviceGray formula.

When PoorSoftMask is false, the RIP honors ICC profiles when painting a soft mask. That is, the RIP makes luminosity soft masks as compliant as possible with the PDF specification.

DeviceCMYK colors are converted to luminosity using the formula recommended in PDF 1.7 , Section 7.4.2 “Deriving a Soft Mask from Group Luminosity”.
