TransparencyHalftone user parameter

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

The TransparencyHalftone user parameter has two allowed values:

/Default

to use the page default screen for non-fully opaque objects.

/TopMost

which uses the screen from the top-most object for all objects. In all cases, fully transparent objects are ignored.

The /Default behavior is in-line with the PDF specification.

The /TopMost setting is of particular value in workflows where it is important to use halftones specified in the supplied PDF file, such as flexography.

If screening overrides are used, the values from the overrides are used in preference to those from the job.

Overprinted objects may use a combination of screens for foreground and background objects, where overprinted colorants use the screen from the background object. The Transparency Halftone parameter is not exposed in the GUI, but can be set globally using a file in /SW/Sys/ExtraStart, or on a per-job basis by using a page feature or configuration PostScript delivered in some other way.
