(v13) Preseparated jobs

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

Some jobs arrive preseparated (that is, pages are preseparated while generating the job). In a preseparated job, each colorant for a logical page is painted in its own page, usually specified in the DeviceGray color space. It is the metadata of the page that identifies the actual colorant.

Normally for preseparated jobs, the Harlequin RIP is set to do separation detection, by using the DetectSeparation system parameter. This means the actual colorant is detected from the page header (or even the screening angle used) and used instead of the ostensible Black/Grey. In this case, the Black or Grey channel in the raster is automatically renamed to the detected colorant. Separation omission may be used to avoid outputting the other, empty, channels that would result when outputting to separations; to achieve this, see Output only non-blank separations regarding the /Omit option.
