(v13) Shadowop and operator redefinition

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

This section discusses redefinition in the PostScript language and some of its advantages and limitations. It also describes the usefulness of two related extensions in the RIP: the operators shadowop and defineop. Another technique is possible. PostScript LanguageLevel 3 allows idiom recognition, often used to provide better results or more efficient execution by recognizing and substituting code structures generated by particular applications. Harlequin has extended this feature to allow wildcard matching and dynamic construction of substitute code.
