Calibration features

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

Calibration is an essential part of keeping a printing process in conformance. The Harlequin RIP provides several methods for linearizing grayscales in addition to the standard transfer functions. See Calibration in the Extensions Manual for all the technical details.  If using the Harlequin MultiRIP (HMR), calibration features are provided via the GUI, or may alternatively be setup using one of the PostScript methods described here.

Calibration groups

In flexographic printing it is often important to ensure that the screening specified within a job is applied, using different screens for different objects within the file. This implies a need to apply different calibration for those different objects, based on the screening that's used. The RIP solves this problem with the optional use of calibration groups, each of which may contain one or more calibrations. 

When calibration groups are in effect, the RIP selects the best calibration set from the group to use for each object and colorant channel on the page, based on comparing the Warnings / Selection Criteria settings for the calibration sets to the properties of each object. Bump-up curves

Bump-up curves are a RIP feature to allow adjustment of the highlight values in flexographic printing.

Push Calibration

The Push Calibration feature provides a route to storing and updating calibration sets. These calibrations can then be selected later via a configuration file or the GUI.
