Effect of geometry on tiling efficiency

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; and to Harlequin Core but not Harlequin MultiRIP

There are several aspects of both the job being submitted and the RIP configuration that can affect efficiency:

  • If you will need to combine the rasters for multiple tiles side-by-side post-RIP then we recommend that you ensure that tile widths (and overlaps, if any) fill a multiple of 64 bits, so that there is no requirement to remove padding from the rasters delivered, or to shift data within buffers.
  • We recommend that tiles are kept narrow enough that the band height used by the RIP is high enough to be efficient. Band height is influenced by MaxBandMemory as well as the explicit BandHeight parameter.
