Emulating missing fonts

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP

As an alternative to using substitution or a default font Harlequin can create emulation fonts of many popular fonts, retaining the weight, widths and color of text, but not the exact glyph shapes. Emulation works well for many “book” and “display” fonts, but less well for special-effect and decorative fonts. It can only be used for single-byte fonts representing Latin text and cannot be used for symbol or pi fonts.

Emulation can be very useful for time-critical environments (e.g., newsprint advertising) and for situations where the job creators are very unsophisticated and may not respond well to a request for a corrected job file.

To configure the RIP to use font substitution, use the GGFontEmulation procset; see The GGFontEmulation procset .
