The imposition mechanism

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

Nearly all the tools needed to do imposition are present in the standard Level 2 PostScript language. The technique is based on intercepting calls to the showpage operator using the BeginPage and EndPage procedures of the page device; it is described in Positioning and printing pages using BeginPage and EndPage. However, there is a flaw in the design of this mechanism in the standard PostScript language. The Harlequin RIP overcomes this by means of an extension, the Imposition page device key, discussed in The Imposition page device key .
