Who should activate the LDK license and when?

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; both Harlequin Core and Harlequin MultiRIP.

The LDK soft lock or VM lock ties the license to a specific computer. You can perform the activation at any time when you have access to the hardware that the RIP runs on (that is, it can be done at a variety of times and locations, depending on your delivery processes and channels). For example:

  • By your own engineers on your own premises if you pre-stage computers with RIP installations before delivery.
  • By a distributor or dealer on their own premises if you deliver software and licenses through your channel and they pre-stage complete computers before hardware installation on site.
  • By your engineer, a dealer, or the end user on the print production site.

This flexibility provides many options around how and where you hold inventory (as well as who can perform the activation).
