Overview
This application offers a mechanism to define printer characteristics in a way that can be imported into companion applications.
Some fields allow multiple entries (for example resolution); in these situations, the companion application allows you to select any of the values. However, you cannot enter a new value.
User interface
Menu items
File
Exit (Alt+F4) - Exit the application.
Help
Help (F1) - Display this help file.
View Log - Open the Printer Profile Editor log file in the default viewer.
About - Report the version number of the Printer Profile Editor.
New
Load a default profile, which overwrites the current settings.
Save
Save the current profile to a file.
Load
Load a profile from a file, which overwrites the current settings.
General tab
Profile Name
Use this text field to set a user-friendly name.
Manufacturer (Optional)
Record the printer manufacturer in this text field.
Some applications may use the data in this field for informational purposes.
Model (Optional)
Record the printer model in this text field.
Some applications may use the data in this field for informational purposes.
Simplex/Duplex Option
Set this to define whether the target device is Simplex or Duplex.
Setting this to the Duplex Option implies the target printer can operate in both Simplex and Duplex modes.
Color Support Option
Set this to define whether the target device is Mono or Color.
Setting this to Mono while defining more than one bar disables the Save button. The Save button is re-enabled when only a single print bar is configured.
Offline Mode Option
Set this to define whether the target device supports Offline Mode.
When creating a printer profile, set this to Unsupported for all but a few special cases.
Direct QI Option
Set this to define whether the target device supports Direct QI Mode.
When creating a printer profile, set this to Unsupported for all but a few special cases.
Printer Type
This should be set to reflect the printing technology of the target device.
Supported Media Width (mm)
This field allows the user to enter all the Media Widths that are supported on the target device.
Change the list of Media Widths using the + and - buttons.
Application displaying Media options displays them in the order shown in this frame.
Drag and drop the entries to change the order of the entries.
Media Type
Set this to reflect the media type of the target device.
Line Speed (m/min)
This should be set to the maximum line speed for the target device.
Bar Profiles tab
Bar Profiles
The print bars are defined here (one for each plane).
You can add and remove bars using the + and - buttons.
You can independently set the details for each bar.
Details
Resolutions
Change the list of available Resolutions using the + and - buttons.
Application displaying Resolutions displays them in the order shown in this frame.
Drag and drop the entries to change the order of the entries.
Supported Bits Per Pixel
The list of available Bits Per Pixel include 1, 2, 4, and 8. You can select the Active Bits Per Pixel from the dropdown list.
Supported Drop Sizes
Change the list of available Drop Sizes using the + and - buttons.
Application displaying Drop Sizes displays them in the order shown in this frame.
Drag and drop the entries to change the order of the entries.
Configure Drop Volumes / Configure Toner Weight
Depending on the Printer Type selected in the General tab, you can choose between the following:
Inkjet – Drop Volumes
A table of Drop Size and Picoliters displays the Drop Size based on the Active Bits per Pixel. You can specify the number of Picoliters per drop size.
Toner – Toner Weight
The Toner Weight per square meter can be set.
