(v13) Compatibility between versions

This page applies to Harlequin v13.1r0 and later; and to Harlequin Core but not Harlequin MultiRIP.

The Harlequin Core is continuously being developed. Consequently, additions and changes are made to this document. Every effort is made to ensure these changes are upward-compatible, but sometimes a non-compatible change will be necessary; such changes will be noted separately.

To ensure that upward-compatible changes do not affect you adversely, it is important to follow the details in this manual carefully. For example, make sure that the spare slots in the device type structure are filled with routines which return the -1-error code and set a last error indicator so that the last_error() routine would return DeviceIOError for that device.
